Plot

Anubis House is a building dating from the 1890s, currently serving as a home for nine (until season two where Eddie comes in) young people under the watch of the boarding school's strict caretaker, Victor Rodenmaar Jr (Francis Magee). As an American girl named Nina Martin (Nathalia Ramos) moves into Anubis House in England, another resident named Joy Mercer (Klariza Clayton), suddenly disappears without a warning and the school staff eliminate all trace of Joy's existence from the school. Joy's best friend, Patricia Williamson (Jade Ramsey) is dismayed to learn this and accuses Nina of being involved with her disappearance. Forced to spend a night in the attic, Nina makes a bizarre discovery: the recorded diary of a young girl who she met earlier as an old woman, Sarah Frobisher-Smythe (Rita Davies), who had lived in the house long ago. On the tapes, it is revealed the house has a secret history, a mystery that nobody knows anything about. Given an Eye of Horus-shaped necklace by Sarah with mysterious powers, Nina decides to investigate the house's mystery alongside her new friend Fabian Rutter (Brad Kavanagh) and new roommate Amber Millington (Ana Mulvoy Ten). They form a secret group called "Sibuna", (Anubis backwards) whose popularity expands to include Patricia once she makes peace with Nina among learning that Joy's disappearance is connected to the house, and Alfie Lewis (Alex Sawyer), a prankster in the beginning of the series. Eventually, Jerome Clarke (Eugene Simon) joins into the mystery as well. There are also people who live there that are oblivious to the mystery; Mara Jaffray, Mick Campbell and Trudy. In the last episode of Season 1 Nina and Fabian become a couple and get back Joy.

As season one draws to a close, prior to Sarah's death, the Sibuna club learns that Victor is the son of Victor Rodenmaar Sr, Sarah's childhood guardian who was after what is revealed to be the Cup of Ankh that gives immortality to the one who drinks from it. Furthermore, Victor is the current leader of the Society dedicated to finding the cup and obtain immortality through the Chosen One: Joy. However, a former Society member named Rufus Zeno attempts and succeeds in getting the Cup after Nina is revealed to be the real Chosen One. After Jerome and Fabian attacked Rufus to get everybody out, they headed to Victor's 'lair' to only find out that Nina is the real Chosen One (but nobody knew but Rufus Zeno at the time). Once Nina finished assembling the Cup of Ankh, Rufus shows up and demands that he gets the cup or he kills Amber. He drinks all of the elixir and burns the Cup of Ankh. But as soon as Rufus had left it was revealed that Fabian had swapped the elixir. As everybody left for the dance, Nina stayed behind and Sarah showed up with her parents and tells Nina to hide the Cup of Ankh in a safe place. After Nina and Fabian kissed and became prom king and queen it showed the cup glowing.

Season 2 revolves around finding the Mask of Anubis. The Mask of Anubis can be found under the house. Underneath the house there are sealed tunnels that can only be opened or passed through after solving a puzzle or using artefacts hidden throughout the house. Nina, Fabian, Patricia, Amber and Alfie all have a mark called the Mark of Anubis resembling a tattoo placed on them by a mysterious ghost-like figure named Senkhara that will take their lives from them if they do not solve the puzzles and recover the mask in time. Senkhara is only seen by Nina unless the other Sibunas are shocked by the Mark of Anubis.

A new student arrives at Anubis House called Eddie Miller (Burkely Duffield). Nina's grandmother is in the hospital due to Senkhara's wrath. Vera, the new house mother, is after the mask and is secretly working for Rufus. Victor is after the mask and thinks he is working with Vera. Rufus is back and is after the mask with help from Vera. Trudy is kidnapped by Vera and Rufus but the Sibuna gang rescue her. Joy wrote a bad article on Nina, so now Joy's friends have turned on her. Patricia and Eddie started a new relationship. Vera has the Mark of Anubis now because Senkhara has frozen Vera alive and of finding about the Sibuna's plan for going after the Mask. The doll house (their only help to find the mask) is destroyed by Alfie because he was trying to save Trudy and Sibuna. Trudy has amnesia, but it all starts to come back to her. Joy is then allowed to write more articles on the Jackal, and so is Mara. Joy apologizes, but nobody forgives her. The Sibunas find out their last task, a game called Senet. Nina falls through the floor due to Fabian's mistake. Since they had already lost Nina and then Alfie, Fabian turns to Joy for help since she is a master at chess. Later, due to a mistake, Amber and Patricia fall through the floor. Minutes later in the episode, they win the game. Fabian and Joy find two keys on a podium, but it was one or the other; the Mask, or fallen friends. They choose their fallen friends, but shortly after they rescue Nina and the others, the podium disappears, leaving them unable to get the Mask. Later, Jerome is taken hostage by Rufus for blackmail purposes. Patricia and Eddie's relationship starts to crumble because Eddie is dismayed that she is keeping secrets from him.

Senkhara tells Nina that if they don't give her the mask soon that she, her grandmother, and the Sibunas will die at sundown the next day. Additionally, Victor now knows that Vera is working for Rufus Zeno. Senkhara plans to take Nina to the afterlife when Nina puts on the mask. Sibuna found the mask and needed the gem that Jerome found for his father, possibly placed in the Frobisher shield by Frobisher-Smythe. It is revealed that Eddie is the Osirian, the protector of the chosen one (Nina) and Nina needed his help. Nina put on the mask, which shot Fabian with an electricity ball. However, Joy took the blow for Fabian. Then Rufus takes the mask from Nina after Eddie had used a spell and killed Senkhara. Rufus is banished to the underworld because only a good heart may enter the afterlife and become a god. Later Nina discovered that the mask had a few drops of the tears of gold. Victor uses it all on Joy, even though the tears of gold is the last ingredients to the elixir. Nina then gives Victor a ring from his father who Nina met when trapped underground. Mick came back and saw that Mara and Jerome have become a couple. Jerome's father was released from jail. Amber and Alfie get back together on Alfie's conditions. Nina's grandmother is released from the hospital and, later, Nina and Fabian kiss and restart their romantic relationship. In the last scene, Victor finds a tear of gold in his ring that Nina gave him, ending season 2. The series uses facts based on Egyptology.
